Meets state requirements to work as a Pharmacy Technician, such as minimum age, qualification, registration, certification, and/or licensure when required by the Florida State Board of Pharmacy.

Holds an active/valid national certification certificate issued by PTCB (PTCE) or NHA (ExCPT).

_*Job Description*_

*Certified Pharmacy Technician*

This position is responsible for the operation of a department. An individual in this position will be expected to perform additional job related responsibilities and duties as assigned and/or necessary. An individual must be able to successfully perform the essential functions of this position with or without a reasonable accommodation.

*Essential Functions*

Enters prescription data into pharmacy software by reading the prescription; translating prescription information into corresponding system codes; transcribing appropriate prescription data (for example, written date, drug name, strength, directions for use (sig), refills, name of prescribing physician, and prescriber DEA number); and creating or modifying patient/customer records. Fills prescriptions by retrieving prescription orders; counting, pouring, measuring or weighing medication tablets, liquids, and creams; mixing or reconstituting medications as needed; selecting, filling, and labeling prescription containers; and operating scanning equipment and/or automated dispensing systems to ensure prescription accuracy.

Monitors and resolves problems in the prescription fulfillment process by processing information for third-party insurance claims; rescanning illegible images; alerting patients to inventory that is out of stock, partial fills, and the need for physician authorizations on refills; and identifying situations requiring pharmacist's action and resolution.

Processes customer purchases by operating cash registers and related hardware; approving monetary transactions; and using appropriate procedures for different payment types and items sold.

Promotes and maintains the Pharmacy's professional reputation and provides patients/customers with pharmacy products and services in accordance with local, state, and federal laws and corporate policies and procedures by assisting the pharmacist in the prescription fulfillment process; maintaining the pharmacy and its merchandise; stocking and rotating merchandise and

supplies from distribution centers and suppliers; handling claims and returns; answering the pharmacy telephone; processing third-party insurance claims and/or rejections; assisting patients/customers with prescription orders and purchases; completing, maintaining, and securing paperwork, forms, and other required documentation; and maintaining a safe shopping environment.

Checking out prescription(s) from the pharmacy to the customer at pick-up by verifying patient information according to corporate policies and procedures, and entering it into the TaSCO system; marking appropriate prescriptions for pick-up; retrieving prescription bag from will-call bin; scanning security tags; gathering electronic signatures for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) acknowledgment and third party payer, if applicable; and using TaSCO to log the sale of restricted pharmaceutical items.

Completes work assignments and priorities by using policies, data, and resources; collaborating with managers, co-workers, customers, and other business partners; identifying priorities, deadlines, and expectations; carrying out tasks; communicating progress and information; determining and recommending ways to address improvement opportunities; and adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback.

Complies with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity by implementing related action plans; using the Open Door Policy; and applying these in executing business processes and practices.

An individual must be proficient in each of the competencies listed below to successfully perform the responsibilities of this position.

Inventory - Handles, moves, and displays goods in safe and correct ways. Tracks goods, maintains in-stock levels, and controls shrinkage in a timely manner. Reports poor inventory practices and low in-stock levels in assigned area. Uses inventory tools and equipment in safe and correct ways.

Point-of-Sale - Follows proper procedures to prevent shrink and follows applicable laws and regulations when selling items to

Customers. Assists Customers with payment methods, return policies, and location of items when asked. Uses the cash

register and completes Customer sales in a timely manner. Reports complaints, shrink issues, and problems with products, services, and work areas.

Pharmacy - Follows safety and security guidelines and related laws and regulations when handling, storing, and providing Pharmacy goods and records, and when filling prescriptions. Provides correct Pharmacy information to Customers or refers them to the Pharmacist when unable to do so. Provides Pharmacy products and services, and handles Customer orders, records, and prescriptions in a timely manner. Reports Pharmacy Department complaints and problems with products, services, and work areas. Uses Pharmacy equipment and supplies in safe and correct ways, and keeps products stocked and organized.

Pharmacy Diversion - Supports the prevention of drug diversion and fraudulent prescriptions. Monitors pharmacy access and maintains security measures. Reports instances of potential prescription fraud and/or diversion to the pharmacist. Adheres to standard operating procedures for handling controlled substances, processing outdated merchandise, selling and returning of pseudoephedrine-containing products, and disposing of trash. Prohibits the presence of personal belongings in the Pharmacy, keeps the Pharmacy neat, clean, organized, and clutter free. Maintains awareness about the abuse of amphetamine and methamphetamine and other related community health issues.
