Receives information and special instructions from the Manager, Supervisor and/or Assistant Vice President, Safety, Security and Risk Management. Description of Job Function 2. Regulates parking and traffic to prevent accidents and congestion. Description of Job Function 3. Patrols college property in an effort to prevent unauthorized loitering, parking, thefts, and vandalism. Description of Job Function 4. Coordinates activities and events with the Manager, Supervisor and/or Assistant Vice President, Safety, Security and Risk Management. Description of Job Function 5. Deploys shift personnel and resources to meet the operational objectives. Description of Job Function 6. Inspects personnel and activities to maintain quality service. Description of Job Function 7. Evaluates assigned personnel. Description of Job Function 8. Responds to emergencies of a medical, criminal, and mechanical nature. Description of Job Function 9. Receives and records service and personnel complaints. Description of Job Function 10. Performs investigations of incidents occurring on college property. Description of Job Function 11. Responds as on-call person (four hours daily, Monday Friday; 12 hours each Saturday/Sunday). Description of Job Function 20. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Minimum Education High school diploma or general education degree (GED) Required Field of Study Other Required Qualifications Required License/Certification State of Florida Class D Security Officer License or any federal, state, county, municipal, corrections, or military academy/police or law enforcement certification. Must possess a valid Drivers License. Preferred Education & Field of Study Preferred Type of Experience Security officer and supervisory experience. Preferred Licenses/Certification Current certification in First Aid/ CPR or to be obtained within 180 days of start date of employment. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of crime reporting requirements under the Clery Act. Ability to work effectively in a diverse community and meet the needs of diverse student populations. Knowledge of security operations and procedures and various applicable policies, regulations, laws, etc. as they affect the security of the campuses. Ability to apply regulations consistently. Ability to describe people and objects in accurate detail; regulate parking and traffic to prevent accidents and congestion; deploy, assign, and direct personnel. Ability to respond to emergency and safety systems. Ability to make effective decisions affecting security operations without supervision and to carry out those decisions in a timely manner. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. General Working Conditions This job operates in a professional office environment and throughout the Colleges worksites and grounds. Within the professional office environment, the employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including but not limited to computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet and occasionally moderate. While operating outside of the office environment, the employee may be exposed to elements including but not limited to wet/humid weather, extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and unpleasant odors. The role may also involve hazards or physical risks, which require comprehending and following basic safety precautions and may require Personal Protection Equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud. Typical physical competencies include but are not limited to remaining stationary, moving, ascending/descending, positioning self, reaching, lifting/moving objects weighing between 5-100 pounds. This job also entails frequently communicating, discerning and exchanging information, detecting and perceiving objects up close, at a distance, and the ability to adjust focus. Cognitive abilities include but are not limited to discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision-making. The typical work environment, physical and cognitive demands listed above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Job specific working conditions The College anticipates that the person filling this position will need to be available throughout the workday and, on some occasions, after regular work hours. Must have the physical conditioning necessary to complete the job. According to section 493.6108, physical fitness for certain types of guards is certified by a doctor who is considered qualified under the provisions of Chapter 458 or 459.Furthermore, under provisions in Chapter 493 of the Florida State Code, applicants who are severely overweight or disabled to the point where it affects job performance may not be eligible to become a guard. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Will be required to operate a college vehicle, including but not limited to on and between campuses and in the local community, in order to perform the essential job functions.
