Job Summary:The Director, Risk Strategies and Compliance is a key member of the Risk Management team. Reporting directly to the VP, Risk Management Services, the successful candidate is responsible for four distinct areas of risk mitigation and regulatory compliance. This position requires a candidate who has a positive attitude and is passionate about safety, service, and support. The ideal candidate is an experienced leader who excels in inspiring and developing a team; fosters partnerships; role models exceptional business savvy; provides business expertise and support; and actively collaborates with partners.
Responsibilities:This leader serves as the executive of the teams responsible for:

  • Regulatory and Department of Transportation (DOT) Compliance
    • Overseeing Regulatory and DOT Compliance, with a focus on anticipating business needs and implementing strategies to respond to regulatory compliance issues including changes in legislation, volume increases, non-compliance, and escalating complex problems or critical risks
  • Business Insight & Support
    • Overseeing system sustainment, analytics and optimization, document management, and data quality management.
  • Maritime Risk Management
    • Maintaining the Companys property and casualty insurance program and monitoring the results of risk management solutions for effectiveness.
  • Claim Support Operations
    • Managing all claims support functions and responsible for streamlining business processes, optimizing resources, and establishing a strong foundation for knowledge dissemination.

Business Acumen
  • Learn and maintain familiarization with emerging issues at the state and federal level that could impact regulatory and compliance and our ability to achieve business results
  • Identify opportunities for cost control and optimization, including risk transfer and mitigation strategies and adjustments in operational efficiency
  • Observe industry trends and business needs and consistently evaluate operational processes
  • Interpret and utilize performance metrics and operational indicators to motivate and enhance the overall performance of the team
  • Demonstrate an understanding of and proficiency in business analytics (budgets, financial analysis, data analysis) as well as insurance and risk management concepts
  • Quickly adapt to new technology and change
  • Actively develop and sustain collaborative and productive relationships with key internal and external business partners, agents, brokers, insurers, and regulatory agencies
  • Influence peers and partners within and across lines of business when consulting on day-to-day operational decisions
  • Influence organizational strategies by contributing information, analysis and recommendations based on actual operating dynamics

Basic Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in insurance, risk management, safety, or related businesses
  • Proactive communicator with strong written, verbal, and presentation skills who can interface effectively at all levels in the company and can appropriately influence business results through negotiation, persuasion and personal presence.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and follow-through
  • Ability to demonstrate and exercise excellent judgment where safety is the first priority
  • Display and role model inclusive behaviors, showing respect for the value of the diverse viewpoints, culture, styles and experience of people
  • Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information
  • Ability to manage and effectively prioritize multiple diverse objectives with a keen attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate in Risk Management (ARM) Designation

Required Education
  • Bachelors degree

Preferred Education
  • MBA or equivalent
