Position Description:

This position is responsible for the overall planning, development and oversight of the Trauma Injury Prevention and Education Programs for HCA Florida Osceola Hospital. The objectives of the this role are to

(1) Educate the community about primary and secondary injury prevention and trauma care; to indirectly decrease death and injury by improving awareness and understanding within the region,

(2) Raise the visibility of HCA Florida Osceola Hospital Trauma Center through public awareness by generating positive media coverage through community outreach, and

(3) Coordinate and manage the Trauma education program assuring compliance with all regulatory, corporate, and hospital requirements.

This position requires excellent communication skills verbally and in writing, and demonstrated high-level independent functioning, reliability, and self-motivation. Estimated work is approximately 50% of work hours out in the community, and 50% in an office setting. Flexibility in hours may be required depending on department needs, and may include evenings and weekends to attend community functions and opportunities. Reports to the Director of Trauma Services. Frequent job duties will include:

Communication and outreach to hospital staff and leaders, EMS and police, neighboring healthcare facilities, and community members.
Develops and implements trauma injury prevention programs for diverse populations in the surrounding community
Develops and fosters strategic partnerships within the community to advance injury prevention and public education initiatives
Adheres to brand standards while developing high quality media materials.
Establishes and implements strategies for continuous improvement in both education and injury prevention.
Maintains accurate records of all injury prevention activities, attendance and effectiveness of programs
Participates in local, regional, state and national injury prevention activities
In collaboration with each unit specific educator, coordinates and monitors activities for orientation, in-service training, and continuing education of all staff involved in trauma care
Maintains detailed documentation of all activities and results

Experience/Certifications Preferred:

Public Health, Health Education, Social Work
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required
Minimum 2 years' experience in a trauma / emergency care setting preferred
Background and experience in health education preferred
Background and experience in public health preferred
Ties in the healthcare/safety community are preferred
Verbal and written language proficiency in English and Spanish strongly preferred
BLS certification required upon hire; Instructor preferred
ACLS certification required upon hire: Instructor preferred
PALS required upon hire; Instructor preferred
TNCC required within 90 days of hire required; Instructor preferred
ENPC within 6 months of hire required; Instructor preferred
Child Passenger Safety Technician preferred
Certifications in CEN, TCRN preferred
Stop the Bleed Instructor preferred

Qualifications
Education:

Nurs ing Diploma or ASN required; BSN preferred.

Previous experience in an acute care setting required. Previous trauma experience preferred

FL RN license and/or approved multistate license

Current BLS (Basic Life Support) required for RN's on all nursing clinical units

Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required in the following Depts: Trauma (948)

New hire/transfer into higher skill level must obtain within 6 months. Required to work under ACLS credentialed RN until training certificate obtained.
